On the Horizon - August Edition
Welcome to my first blog post—and the very first edition of On the Horizon!
So, what exactly is On the Horizon?
Every month, I'll be pulling back the curtain a little bit and sharing something happening behind the scenes at Horizons Marketing Co.
Each edition, I'll highlight a particular client, project, challenge, strategy, or idea that has been keeping my marketing brain busy.
Don't worry—I won't be name-dropping or giving away all the secrets. But I will be sharing a little more about the thinking behind the marketing.
Because you may be wondering...
“Aren't you just posting for your clients?”
Yes and no, my friend.
Yes, we're posting. But we're posting with purpose and strategy.
We're not just slapping up a random post, checking social media off the list, and calling it a day.
At Horizons Marketing Co., the goal is to continuously look at what's working, what isn't, where opportunities exist, and how we can adjust the strategy to keep marketing moving forward.
Because marketing isn't really a “set it and forget it” kind of thing.
Businesses change. Goals change. Audiences change.
Sometimes, the strategy needs to change too.
And that's what On the Horizon is all about.
Every month, I'll be sharing a little glimpse into what's happening behind the scenes and highlighting one of the marketing challenges, ideas, or opportunities we're working through.
So, let's get into this month's edition.
This Month: Bringing the Personal Back
One of my clients recently went through a pretty significant change.
After being owned by private equity, the company is now family-owned.
And from a marketing perspective?
That's a pretty big opportunity.
Because while the business itself may still offer the same products or services, the story behind the business has changed.
There's now an opportunity to lean into something that may have gotten lost along the way: the people.
We're starting to bring more of that personal side into the marketing.
Think team introductions. Frequently asked questions. The people behind the business. THE PURPOSE. The kind of content that gives customers a better understanding of who they're working with—not just what the company sells.
Because sometimes, the thing that differentiates your business isn't necessarily your product.
Sometimes, it's the experience.
It's how you do business.
It's the people behind it.
And if that's one of the things that makes your business different, why wouldn't you talk about it?
We're not throwing out everything that's already being done and starting from scratch. Instead, we're looking at where there's an opportunity to add something new to the strategy.
That's one of my favorite parts of marketing.
You don't always need to reinvent the wheel.
Sometimes, you just need to take a step back and ask:
What are we not talking about yet?
And more importantly...
Could that be the thing that makes someone choose you?
That's what's On the Horizon this month.
See you next month for whatever marketing problem, idea, strategy, or opportunity happens to be keeping me busy next.
